A beautiful Sunday morning is a perfect backdrop for a colorful festival such as the one I just witnessed in a nearby town of Tsurugi. I am not sure what the festival was all about but a good and fun way to finish off my first weekend in Japan. My guess is that it’s a ceremony to bless the businesses in the city. Each group of young lads will carry the big statue and stop at each doorstep of the shops along the road and chanted.
The procession was monitored by the older men in black and wearing wooden shoes (terompah) and we still have those wooden shoes in the surau. Very hard to walk but these men ran around with those shoes on.
